Jen Jordan (pronounced Jer-Dun) is an attorney and former Georgia State Senator with over two decades of experience fighting for everyday Georgians. Often described as a "lawyer's lawyer," Jen has built her career on a simple principle: the powerful should be held accountable when they break the law and hurt people.
Early Life and Education
Born and raised in Dodge County in South Georgia, Jen is the oldest daughter of a single mother who worked as a hairdresser. From her mother, she learned the value of hard work and perseverance.
Jen graduated magna cum laude from Georgia Southern University in 1997 with a degree in political science. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2001, graduating in the top 10% of her class. During law school, she served on the Georgia Law Review and was a member of the law school's National Moot Court Team.
After graduation, Jen clerked for Judge Anthony A. Alaimo, a federal judge revered in legal circles for his tough, no-nonsense approach and deep sense of fairness — an experience that shaped her understanding of what justice should look like.
Legal Career
Jen's practice has focused primarily on complex civil litigation involving the victimization of consumers and catastrophic injury to individuals. She has fought to shut down predatory lenders, prevent mortgage companies from wrongfully foreclosing on families, and force health insurance companies to cover lifesaving cancer treatments. Her cases vary in subject matter — from False Claims Act litigation to professional malpractice, business disputes, and investment fraud — but the throughline is consistent: holding the powerful accountable.
Jen has been consistently recognized as one of the top attorneys in Georgia. She was named to Georgia Super Lawyers' Top 100 list in 2016 and has been recognized as one of the top 50 women attorneys in the state. In 2007, Georgia Trend magazine named her to its prestigious 40 Under 40 list. In 2013, the University of Georgia named her to its 40 Under 40 list honoring her as outstanding young alumnus making an impact. She previously served on the Board of Governors for the State Bar of Georgia.
Beyond the courtroom, Jen has served as a legal and political commentator for CNN, bringing her deep knowledge of Georgia law and politics to a national audience.
Public Service
In 2017, Jen was elected to the Georgia State Senate, representing District 6, which includes parts of Fulton and Cobb Counties. She won a hard-fought special election and was subsequently re-elected in 2018 and 2020. During her tenure, she earned a reputation as one of the smartest and hardest-working senators at the Capitol, respected by members of both parties.
In the Senate, Jen fought to protect Georgians' right to vote and right to privacy, to prevent corporate polluters from poisoning Georgia's air and water with cancer-causing chemicals, and to protect children from sexual predators and abusers. Her small-town roots informed everything she did, grounded in the belief that the courthouse – and the Capitol – should be places where everyone is treated equally.
In 2022, Jen was the Democratic nominee for Georgia Attorney General. Though she did not win the office, she received more votes than any other Democratic candidate for statewide constitutional office, including the party's gubernatorial nominee. In 2026, she ran for a seat on the Georgia Supreme Court, earning endorsements from President Barack Obama and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Personal
Jen lives in the Chastain Park area of Atlanta with her husband, Lawton, also an attorney, originally from Augusta, and their two children, Lawton and Cokie. She remains active in her community and continues to practice law at the eponymous The Jordan Firm.
